I think that the veins going black is an appropriate method to spread the awareness of smoking and its consequences. it isn't too disgusting like loads of blood or someone dying but its scary enough to make people think again before they smoke again.
the shock tactics that I think are acceptable are ones where there isn't any blood or anything that is classified as disgusting like guts or murder. I think that the people who watch these adverts are very sensitive and don't like blood and things like that and might complain about it.
